Dictionaries:
lady-killer:
Or: ladykiller , a man (reputed to be) sexually irresistible to women, a successful seducer of many women. In The Dictionary of Bias-Free Usage (1991) Rosalie Maggio objects to the use of this sexist word ' because there is no equivalent for a woman and because of the use of "lady " ' and for other reasons; she recommends instead: popular/successful with the women/the men. See ladies'-man and philanderer for synonyms. QUOTE: The sheriff and Susan Vance (Katharine Hepburn) speaking of David Huxley (Cary Grant) in Bringing Up Baby (1938):
-- Sheriff: ' Oh! So he's a lady-killer?! '
-- Susan: ' A lady-killer?! Why he's a regular Don Swan. (...) He bops them over, one, two, three, boom. Just like that. He's a wolf .'
