funk:

1. In the 1950s, before passing into the jazz terminology, funk referred to the pungent odor emanating from a sexually excited woman . In jazz parlance, funk / funky meant earthy, passionate , soulful.

2. (A state of) fear or nervousness. ' I'm in a funk .'
