Beulah:

1. A black homosexual male, possibly based on the character of the maid Beulah Thorndyke (Gertrude Howard) in the Mae West comedy I'm No Angel (1933): 'Beulah, peel me a grape .' Not to be confused with Beaulah , a male homosexual , from a contraction of beau + oh-la-la.

2. Among male homosexuals, a derogatory nickname for a complaining or nagging companion .
