Cold sores and fever blisters on the mouth or face commonly caused by the Herpes Simplex I virus or HSV-I (HSV 1) in distinction to genital-herpes caused by Herpes Simplex II virus or HSV-II (HSV 2). HSV-I. is much less serious then HSV II and is not considered an STD .
