Obsolete, 18 ^th century euphemism for the vagina , based on the (humorous) belief, at the time, that the vagina controls mens' sexual-desires. See vagina for synonyms. Quote: John Cleland, Fanny Hill: Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure (1749): ' There is a controlling part or queen-seat in us, that governs itself by its own maxims of state .'
