Obsolete appellation for a lecherous or promiscuous man , based on smock , a chemise , a woman considered sexually, an immoral woman . In Courtesans and Cuckolds. A Glossary of Renaissance Dramatic Bawdy (1979) James T. Henke calls him a womanizer and whoremonger . Smock-smelling , also obsolete, referred to the activity of womanizing and whoremongering.
