A vulgar Scottish term of abuse meaning, literally, a bag of shit , derived from blether or blather, a bag or bladder , and skate or skite , shit . This term features in the Scots song Maggie Lauder : ' Jog on your gait, ye blatherskate . Modern equivalents would be: shit-for-brains; bag of shit .
