abandonment (of a spouse):

The voluntary departure of one spouse from the marital home without the consent of the other spouse , without justification, and with the intent to terminate the marital relationship . This departure is deemed grounds for divorce when it has continued the length of time required by the local , state or provincial statutes. Synonym: malicious abandonment.
