Or: cul-de-sac (of Douglas) / pouch-of-Douglas / rectouterine-pouch / rectouterine-excavation , a blind pouch or sac located at the bottom of a woman's abdominal-cavity between the uterus and rectum. Inflammation in this area from pelvic-inflammatory-disease (PID) or endometriosis can cause pain during sexual-intercourse (dyspareunia); it is through the cul-de-sac that culdocentesis and culdoscopy are performed.
