An obsolete designation for a homosexual male or female, based on the idea that homosexual people turn inward to their own sex rather than outward to the opposite-sex . Also dated or outdated are the related terms : absolute-invert , amphigenic-invert , and contingent-invert .
ETYMOLOGY: According to one source this word was coined prior to 1611, before publication of the King James Version.
